March Philippines Mission Report No.3

On Thursday afternoon, we visited a woman’s prison and held an event. In the hour we were given, we sang songs, played games, and gave a message.

This is the entrance to the prison.

When entering into the prison you can see the guards living quarters. The guards are also former convicts and when released are given an opportunity to work at the prison.

The prisoners in the prison are given freedom to walk around in the quarters and work various jobs.

When we did games with the prisoners we had a lot of fun. It was a simple rock-scissors-paper and multiple choice game, but it seem that they enjoyed playing. When we also sang the song “Come to Me” many of the prisoners were in tears. Our singer was also in tears while singing the song. It was when the word of God touched the hearts of the prisoners.

When the pastor presented the salvation message, many of the prisoner opened their hearts and listened.

Finally, we passed out food and drinks and greeted them good bye.

Their wonderful smiles are unforgettable.

We took a picture outside of the prison.

We bought Coke in a plastic bag sold outside of the prison. When buying drinks at a small Sari Sari Store, they give you your drink in a plastic bag. It is very interesting!

March Philippines Mission Report No. 2

We had to opportunity to present a few acts during our trip to the Philippines. While we were still in Japan, we prepared a few songs, games, etc.

We put a lot of effort in practicing “No Surprise Exercise.” We didn’t know if the people in the Philippines would enjoy it at that time, however it seems as if all the people enjoyed it. We enjoyed dancing with everybody.

We had plans on visiting a woman’s prison, so we prepared a song of encouragement.

We had a singer on our team who took part in our charity concert, so she sang the song for us.

The song is called “Come to Me”

It is a song based on Matthew 11:28-

March Philippines Mission Report No.1

On March 19^th to 26^th, we went to our second mission trip to the Philippines for this year. There were a few issues we had to face, however we were able to serve the people with joy. This time, 5 people were part of the team. The younger person of our team was a high-schooler and the oldest was in his 60s. At the end, we were a tight knit group.

I introduced the sites of the Philippines before, but here are a few picture to refresh.

In the Philippines, many people use motorized tricycles to get around.

It a ride you will not be able to experience in Japan, so please try when you visit the Philippines. A ride would cost about 20cents per-person.

The day we got to the Philippines, we had a meal with the local team. We had dinner at McDonald’s and they have rice and spaghetti!

Then, we visited our friend’s house in the poor part of town.

The kids gave us a warm welcome!

Narita Report

On February 17th, our mission team returned back to Japan safely.

This time we went around two nations in about a month. It has been an amazing mission.

Thanks to all who have been there to support us.

On that night we were allowed to give a report at Narita Christ Church.

While eating a meal we shared the various works we did at the Philippines and Pakistan.

We were able to have a great time of fellowship.

Brick Making in Pakistan

When going to the country side of Pakistan, make sights of smoky chimneys are seen.

These are all brick factories, many people make a living by making bricks.

We were able to see people mixing dirt with water and drying up what they had made.

Some villages don’t have school, so children would help out their family business.

They children were very used to working.

These children work everyday, carrying heavy dirt and water.

They are many debates concerning child labor, but these children need to work for their families survival.

What I heard is they make 4.5 dollars for every 1000 bricks they make.

It is not easy to break the cycle of poverty, there must be a change in a city and a nation.

It feels like a subject so far away, but we need to know the reality.

Also, we would like to do what we can do to help.

Supporting Developing Countries

We gave books and apples to the children in the poor village.

Like I stated in my last post, the library has very limited books.

There was a huge difference compared to Japan.

We gave English and Urdu dictionaries, books, and teacher dictionaries.

We also gave panels to post on the walls.

Since this is a girls school, most of the teacher are females.

Then, we gave apples to the children.

Most house hold cannot afford apples, and most children do not eat breakfast.

Most children were nervous about receiving apples, however many of them bit into them right when they got their hand on them. Other, took them home to their families to split them.

It was a very heartwarming moment.

What we can do is limited, but it is great that we can put a smile on the faces of the children.

Poor Village School in Pakistan

I visited a poor region in Pakistan.

Most people in Pakistan are muslims and the persecution towards Christians are not unusual.

Scissors used to cut Christians hair are thrown away, people are teased and bullied because they claim to be Christians.

In spite of all of that going on, the Christians here are diligently working hard and living.

There are even instances where houses are robbed and people killed due to being christians.

We visited the only christian school in a small village.

The president of the school desires to use education to break the bonds of discrimination and persecution towards Christians.

There were about 260 students.

Scripture were written on the walls of the school, making the only way to broadcast to the outside world. On this wall it was written, “Obey your father and mother, and love you neighbor as yourself.”

I was very impressed to see the hard work and the love of the children even being placed in a difficult situation.

They children were very shy, and wouldn’t show a smile unless talked to.

It seemed like they were always on their tows.

They were probably surprised to see Japanese people for the first time.

This is the school library.

If kind of difficult to see, but there are only a limited selection of books.

We also donated some books and dictionaries which I will post in another entry.

In this town, only the school owns a car so the people use donkey’s and cows for transportation.

Also in the houses, meals are cooked with making a fire.

It was as if living with nature.

Situation of Pakistan

Hello!

Today I want to write this blog from Pakistan! From last Monday we have safely arrived in Lahore, Pakistan. We have been able to go around. One step out of South East Asia is a new world. The scenery and culture is brand new. The difference to Japan is very great.

I want to post a few pictures of Lahore.

First, this is a picture of the houses here. Most houses are made of bricks and mud. Coming from nation with a lot of earthquakes, I thought the building would crumble down easily.

Also, the transportation methods are very interesting.

We saw many Japanese cars, but other vehicles that were used were: rickshaws (motorcycle taxi), flashy trucks, donkeys, horses, and cows. The animals were used to carry products and people.

At times, people would ride the roofs of buses and hang from the latter.

This is a scene we never see in Japan.

Also, the animals seen in Pakistan are different. This is a picture I took in the country side; shepherds take their sheep and camels for a walk next to the roads.

The team was surprised to see new things! During the day it feels like summer and at night it feels like winter. In a day one can experience many season, it is a very usual feeling.

Passing Out Stationaries and Candies

Today, we passed out stationaries and candies to the children of Imus Cavite. This is what we packed yesterday. To the elementary and middle school students we passed out stationaries.

To the younger children we passed out candies and crayons.

The adults were also saying they wanted the stationaries. The girls were especially glad to receives gifts. I want to see those amazing smiles again.
